We're just Beginning

Fork Real Community Cafe is dedicated to increasing food security and building community through its pay-what-you-can nonprofit restaurant model. Currently, Fork Real is in phase two of its development plan...to have a stand-alone full-service community cafe serving the Rapid City community.

We're a new nonprofit cafe dedicated to real people, real food and real conversations. And we're just getting started in Rapid City! Read below to learn about what makes the Fork Real Community Cafe such a special place.

We are a "pay what you can" cafe, currently serving lunch three days a week in the lower level of the Creamery at 201 Main St. We emphasize three main concepts:

  • People-Anyone and everyone in the community is invited to enjoy a homestyle meal in a welcoming environment regardless of their ability to pay.
  • Food- Enjoy nutritious food using locally grown produce in a "farm to table" model building a stronger community.
  • Conversation-Whether your sitting at a table for two or at our community table, food is the avenue for conversation.

What is Fork Real?

What is Pay-What-You-Can?

The "pay what you can" concept allows customers a variety of options to pay for their meal. Patrons can...

  • Pay the value of the meal
  • Volunteer in exchange for a meal
  • Pay it forward by paying for someone else's meal

This concept is modeled after One World Everybody Eats, an organization which has a network of over 60 cafes operating throughout the United States. Some of these cafes include:

What is Fork Real's vision?

Our vision is to have a mid-size cafe in the developing area East of 5th Street where we can serve people from all walks of life.  Guests will be able to sit at private tables or share a larger table with others and engage in "courageous conversation."

We are currently in the second phase of our development plan, building awareness and raising funds. We would love to have as much support and involvement as possible as we build a cafe that serves the entire community. For more information on getting involved, see our "Get Involved" section.

What kind of food is served?

We offer some of everything, from homestyle chicken alfredo, to wholesome quinoa bowls to scrumptious slices of chocolate jalapeno cheesecake. We believe in "slow food" that is healthful and delicious, giving patrons the opportunity to nourish their lives and community. Our menu changes daily to accommodate seasonal features, promote sustainability, and minimize food waste. Grain-free and dairy-free options are always available.

Fork Real partners with local food growers in the Black HIlls in order to have fresh and flavorful ingredients.  See our partners section for more information.
